Description
Winkel Tripel projection.
Syntax
WINKEL [1,2,3]
The WINKEL command has these optional parts:
Parameter Description
1 Latitude of standard parallels N&S
(Degrees portion)
2 Latitude of standard parallels N&S
(Minutes portion)
3 Latitude of standard parallels N&S
(Seconds portion)
Remarks

In MicroCAM versions 1.4 and greater. Not in CAM.

The Winkel Tripel is constructed by averaging the X then the Y outputs of the Equirectangular & Aitoff projection formulas.

If not specified, the standard parallels for the Equirectangular portion of the projection are set to 50.467° (50° 28') North & South as used by Winkel; Bartolomew used a value of 40° for his atlases.

This projection as been adopted by the National Geographic Society for its World Reference Map.
