The Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA), approximately 8 miles west of downtown Santa Barbara, is most convenient and is served by express airlines codesharing with the above airlines. For more info, see Flysba.com.
From there, we recommend taking the Eos transportation shuttle—very convenient and less expensive than taxis. There is usually a shuttle waiting at the airport for de–planing passengers, otherwise there is a courtesy phone in the baggage claim area. Also, it is convenient and a bit less expensive to schedule a round-trip with them. For more information, see Eos Transportation.
Flying into Los Angeles International (LAX) airport is about a 2-hour drive southeast of Santa Barbara and is served by most major airlines and car rental companies. As an alternative to renting a car, the Santa Barbara Airbus can take you from LAX to either downtown Santa Barbara or Goleta. They offer discounted rates for groups, round-trips and pre-paid trips. For schedules, fares, and pick-up/drop-off locations see the link above. The Goleta stop is closest to the UCSB campus.
Flying into Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena (BUR) airport: On the northern edge of the greater Los Angeles area, BUR is about 2 hours from Santa Barbara and is served by many major airlines and car rental companies. Airfares are usually comparable to LAX fares.
Santa Barbara is also served by Amtrak, with convenient service from Los Angeles, Burbank Airport, and San Diego.
If you are staying on-campus in Manzanita Village, there is free shuttle service from and to the Santa Barbara airport. Participants need only call the front desk at (805)893-6161 during regular office hours (from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) upon arrival at the airport.
